More than half a century ago, a young 18 year boy Chunilal Kapashi left for Africa from Chuda village, Gujarat in Western India, leaving behind his son Shantilal Kapashi. Shantilal Kapashi was barely 10 when he moved to Mumbai to earn a living and worked as a tea stall boy outside the Mumbai Stock Exchange. Proximity to the bulls in stocks and a natural entrepreneurial instinct drew him in to speculative trading which had its ups and downs.
He would visit a garage to sort out problems with his car. That garage was located near Ruby Mills which was incurring huge losses. Shantilal Kapashi ultimately bought Ruby Mills and with some technical assistance started building wooden coaches paving the way for the firm that was nurtured and developed by his three sons Dhirajlal, Sevantilal, Indubhai.
Pankaj Kapashi, the Managing Director of Ruby Bus Pvt. Ltd. is the third generation to run and expand the business.
